How the numbers work
Two measures, built on every ball of men's T20 cricket since 2005.
Ratings, −5 to 15
- Each innings and spell is rated against all top-level performances on a bell curve. 5 is the middle; 15 is the top 0.1%.
- Batters are compared with others in the same batting position; strike rate against par matters as much as runs.
- Bowlers are judged on economy first, then on whose wicket they took and when.
- A player's rating blends the last 30 months: the last year counts in full, the year before three quarters, the six months before that half.
- Opposition and league strength count. International cricket between the top sides weighs most, then the IPL.
Points, up to 200 a match
- One point is worth about one average run. A run is worth more when the game is tight and the pitch is slow, and less once the result is settled.
- Batting: runs, plus how far ahead of or behind par the batter scored, minus the cost of getting out.
- Bowling: runs saved against par, plus wickets. A top-order batter early on is worth the most.
- Fielding: catches, stumpings and run-outs earn a small share of the wicket.
- Above 150 in one performance, the rest counts half, and no performance can score more than 200.
Values, in ₹ crore
- IPL market value is the likely price at an IPL mega auction. It is fitted on every price, unsold player and retention in the 2025 mega auction and the 2026 auction.
- What moves it, beyond the rating: the overseas quota; a premium for Indian pace bowlers and wicketkeepers; a discount for overseas spinners; age, especially for overseas veterans; uncapped status; and how much he has played in the IPL in the last two seasons.
- Player market value switches those habits off: the price of an established, capped Indian player of the same quality in his prime. A second skill (an all-rounder's bowling or batting) adds value in proportion to how much he is used in it.
- Both share the same money: the top 250 add up to the same total. Below the minimum base price (₹75 L capped, ₹30 L uncapped) a player is shown as likely unsold.
- Limits: auction prices are noisy, and our ball-by-ball data has little domestic Indian cricket since 2023, so uncapped Indians with big domestic seasons can be worth more than we show.
Premium (coming)
- Ball-by-ball points for every innings and spell.
- Pressure and phase splits: powerplay, middle overs, death, chasing.
- Value history for every player, season by season.
- Live points during matches.
